Meet Shelby: WAV’s Newest Team Member Bringing Heart, Science, and a Passion for Wellness

Hi everyone! My name is Shelby, and I’m thrilled to be joining the incredible team at Worried About a Veteran.

A little bit about me: I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a concentration in Social Welfare in 2021. My professional background is in social-behavioral and clinical research, with a focus on suicide prevention for Veterans that have chronic pain and/or substance use disorders. After graduation, I spent three years supporting Veterans at high risk for suicide at the Department of Veterans Affairs Center of Excellence for Suicide Prevention. There I helped create new treatments to foster resilience in the Veterans I worked with.

My career has always centered around people—their stories, their struggles, and the science behind what helps us heal. Joining this team is an exciting next step in expanding resources for Veterans and their loved ones, and I can’t wait to bring my experience, compassion, and curiosity to the work we do here.

Beyond the research world, I’m someone who loves turning big goals into actionable steps, supporting others in their wellness journeys, and advocating for self-care! In my spare time, you’ll either find me chasing after my three young children outside, doing yoga, organizing my planner, or with my nose in a good book.

Looking Ahead

I’m genuinely excited to grow with this team and contribute to a culture of empathy, curiosity, and support. My hope is to bring not just my professional experience but the kind of warmth and understanding that helps people feel seen and heard.

With that said, December is in full swing and as the holidays draw closer, please remember to lean on your loved ones for support—even just to share how stressful the holidays are or to simply listen to another person’s voice. It’s always nice to give a chance for your loved ones to be heard.

Here’s to a meaningful month, a strong close to the year, and a bright start to everything ahead.

Cheers!
